One of the highly recommended materials for any commercial building, home, or interior fixtures is steel. Everywhere you go, you will notice its presence. Steel is really very popular today.
However, did you know that steel is also friendly to the environment? Yes, it is. Steel come in several varieties of course such as steel round, steel sheet, steel flat, and even a steel tube. So, what makes it a “green” material? Read on to find out five reasons why steel is considered an environment friendly metal.
1. Recyclable
Statistics show that in North America, steel is in fact the most recycled material. What’s good about steel is that even after years of use, you can recycle it and it will not even lose its physical components you get it in tact. So, if you unused steel building frames, you can simply recycle it and find better use for it elsewhere. After recycling, it will look brand new, and definitely just as sturdy and durable as before.
2. Provides great ventilation
One good aspect about steel is that it provides great ventilation, as long as it is supported with thermal materials. As a result, you will no longer have to use up so much energy to make the building interior cool, and this of course helps in energy conservation. You will get to save on your electricity bills.
3. Minimal waste products
There is always a problem managing land fills these days because of the amount of wastes being thrown into it. However, if you use steel, it will not produce a lot of waste products. To give you a more concrete explanation, 2,000 sq. ft. steel frame will result to only one cubic yard of scrap. This is pretty minimal as compared to other kinds of materials being used for construction.

5. Non toxic
Steel round, steel flat bars, and steel sheet are made of materials that are not harmful to anyone or to the environment. These are also non allergenic.
By using steel, you are making a good contribution towards saving Mother Earth. While today’s industrialization has given us more business opportunities and convenience in going about our day to day activities, it has unfortunately, produced more harm than good to the environment. We need to do our part. We cannot just take this for granted until it will already be too late.
