I’m still learning how to be an internet marketer! Yes, I said it. In a world where everyone likes to claim guru status, I’m going to try something different. THE TRUTH. The truth is that I work hard every day to make a living—both online and offline. The truth is that I’ve tried just about every internet marketing/affiliate marketing product in the book, with varying levels of success. In other words…The truth is that there is nothing easy to making money on the internet.
Again, I am not a guru, but I know that the following are some of the steps that you need to take when marketing a product as an affiliate:
Select your target audience -- First identify who are the people you would like to sell your product to. Start on the basic premise of identifying potential customers before actually selling your product.
Know what is hot and happening--This goes back to understanding your target audience. You’ll do well if you are interested in the product that you promote. Many “gurus” tell you to start by focusing on your favorite hobby first, but what if your hobby is something that nobody is interested in (except you)? I would recommend researching what the “hot” niches are within the past three months, and selecting a niche from the “hot” list that you could be interested in.
Have a positive and realistic mindset --Positivism is always good, but setting realistic goals is vital. Think positive but don’t get caught up in the online hype, expecting to become super-rich very quickly. This includes not changing how you do business every time the newest internet marketing tool becomes available (I’m guilty of this one too).
Promote the "in" things--It is basic common sense, but is often missed. Sell people what they are looking for most, and in the case of the internet selling information based products and electronics services works best.
Build a List--It is vital to follow up on every prospective customer who visits your website. Try and get them to subscribe to a monthly or weekly newsletter. Keep them involved, for they'll all be valuable.
Clutter free diversification --Don’t make your blog look cluttered with links to affiliate programs strewn around all over. This could dilute the effectiveness of each of these links. Instead opt for a few links that market a wide range of products.
Don't Overdo It--Don't over stretch yourself by taking on more than 4-5 products at the same time because you also need to find time to research and analyze the products before actually marketing them.
Start your own ezine or newsletter--There's an abundance of such free newsletters on the internet and their popularity stems from the fact that anything well written and passionately presented always is of value to someone.
Share something with your readers that you don’t make a commission off--Only then will they take your recommendations seriously and your affiliate profits will rise.
Communication--Respond to questions quickly (target less than 12 hours). Reply quickly to affiliate queries to form the best impression in the prospects' minds.
