E-Prep System is a liquid-based cytology processor. The Liquid-Based Cytology E-Prep is a patented invention with a dual membrane filter created to optimize the analysis of each specimen.
The medical term "cytology" refers to the examination of cells from body fluids, aspirated materials, or cells scraped from a particular part of the body. A pathologist spreads the specimen on a glass slide and examines the individual cells under a microscope.
One of the most common uses of cytology of scraped materials is for examination of cervical smears, also commonly known as PAP smears.
E-Prep System's liquid-based cytology works under the same system to detect cancers and any precancerous or abnormal cell changes. It also is capable of detecting cellular virus infections. However, there are many differences between the traditional PAP smear testing and Pathtech's liquid-based PAP test (E-Prep).
Testing with traditional PAP smears
Normally, a doctor or lab tests women for cervical or uterine cancers through a standard PAP smear. Medical personnel retrieve a cervical sample; however usually only 20 percent of the cells are salvageable. Unfortunately, as the process proceeds, it ends up drying the saved cells leading to a possible misdiagnosis.
The Liquid-Based PAP Test (E-Prep)
Liquid-based E-prep test avoids the pitfalls of the old-fashioned PAP smear. It collects and maintains 100 percent of the cells taken from the cervical sample, which are then sent to the lab intact. This fact makes it a much more thorough and effective testing system.
Like regular cytological testing, the E-Prep has can test for more than gynecological applications. It can test for TB, cancers of the lungs, bladder, kidneys, breasts, and thyroid gland, and for a reoccurring malignancy.
Additional features of the liquid-based E-Prep system include:
? Dual cushioned membrane filtration system, which allows for the even spreading of cells and for easy and fast slide readings (approximately 150 slides per hour)
? Programmable setting options enabling timely reproduction of testing
? Programmable settings allow for setting options in time and strength for filtration and cell transfer.
They also specialize in the development of equipment and supplies used in pathology examinations such as Paraffin Reagents Para Path, Ctyo PAP brushes, and superior grade Microtome Blades for sectioning.
