Television is much more popular in homes today than it was thirty or forty years ago and many children these days spend hours in front of the television every day. Throughout the day there are numerous cartoons on multiple channels and many parents find themselves setting their children in front of the T.V. with their favorite show in order to carry out their busy lifestyles. This is likely in part due to the necessity of two parents having to work and partly due to the extensive advertisement for such shows. Either way it may be a good idea to shut off those cartoons every now and then and turn on something a little more educational. There are a number of different types of educational programming that is suitable for children of all ages and some of them can even be enjoyed by adults too. Listed are just a few great ideas for educational programming for you and your children.

With technology has come much better television programming and these days there are multiple channels to choose from. Many of these channels are devoted to one particular type of programming, one of these having to do with all things animals. Children are born with a love of animals to begin with so why not foster that love with educational programs about animals. Help your child to learn about the different habitats and eating habits of animals, about how they care for their young, and numerous other fascinating things about animals by switching off the cartoons and tuning in to one of the many animal channels to choose from.

Another popular type of programming that is great for children of all ages is science programming. Although typically thought to be for older children, younger children can benefit from programs having to do with science as well. It is never too early to help a child develop a love for something other than cartoons and even if they do not quite understand what they are watching the programs can benefit them still. Simple but amazing scientific experiments can help you child to develop a sense of awe that may lead them to a keen interest in science for years to some.

Television shows having to do with space are also an educational option for your children. The stars and planets are objects of amazement for children starting at a considerably young age and with all the programming relating to space and the stars and planets that are available on television make it easier for you as a parent to help your child further develop that love for astronomy. Help your child to learn more about the constellations, Earth, and everything beyond and they may grow up loving it so much that they end up pursuing a rewarding career in astronomy.

Sitting in front of the television everyday is probably not good for a child but decreasing the time that they watch useless programming and increasing the time that they watch educational shows can help them to gain at least a little bit from the time that they spend watching T.V. Find some educational programs for your children to watch and begin expanding their minds today.
