If on one day for some reason you'll get an idea that you want to play the flute, then you came to the right place. This article is basically a general instruction or the easiest way of how to play the flute.

Get a Flute

There are two ways to get to the flute - buy one or rent one. Anyway you'll have to head off to a local music store and consult the seller. He'll definitely recommend you a good beginners flute (just in case it is a flute with closed holes). And of course it will be wiser to rent a flute, if you want to try playing it first.

The second step will be to assemble the flute and tune it. As for assembling there will be a manual with the flute, if not ask for some manual at the store or just find some online manuals. Anyway assembling a flute is not as complicated as it might seem, still it is better to read the manual first, to avoid damaging a new or rented flute. As for tuning it is done with a metronome, you can buy/rent one or use a digital metronome on your PC if you have a good ear for music.

Once you've accomplished these two steps, then you should have a finely tuned flute and can proceed to actually playing it.

Get some flute basics

There are three main basics in playing the flute - breathing, posture and position of the flute. If we dive into the details we won't fit in this article, so we'll describe the main principles. To practice the right way of blowing, take a bottle and try to blow across the opening to get a sound. Blowing into the flute will be similar, so practice a while with a bottle to get the idea. Then take a flute, place your lower lip on the lip panel and try to get a sound from the flute.

As for position it is easy. After properly placing your flute between the lips, you should hold it angled a little to the right. Put your left fingers on the keys nearest to you with the thumb underneath the flute. Place your right fingers on the rest of the keys to cover them.

Sitting or standing it doesn't matter. As for posture, the flute must be hold a little below parallel, the head must be held up, to allow an easy circulation of air. It is also important to feel relaxed while playing. If you feel that your hand or leg is getting numb - change the position.

In addition to the basics you will also need a song to play. There are thousands of flute notes online, so just search for some beginners flute songs. And of course make sure that you can read the notes.

Play the flute

So if you've done everything right, you will be able to play some basic beginner flute melody on your flute. If you found all these enjoyable, then find a Singapore flute school or take up Singapore flute lessons from a qualified Singapore flute teacher. This will help you to master the flute on some more advanced levels.
