ILM is the acronym for the Institute of Leadership and Management. It is one of the awarding bodies for management and leadership qualifications in United Kingdom. It's also one of the professional membership bodies for managers and leaders in UK to provide a wide variety of a career support service to all of its members.
ILM : History And Background.
ILM was established in November 2001 by merging the ISM (Institute of Supervision and Management) and the NEBS (National Examining Board for Supervision and Management). It's an organization within City & Guilds Group, but unlike other organizations, it has an independent and awarding body status. At present, it is based in London and Lichfield, and it approves a group of centres around the world to deliver their qualifications.
Enhancing Leadership And Management Capabilities.
The qualifications of ILM are designed and practically based to complement those roles and responsibilities of individuals at their work. ILM qualifications are aligned to QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) of UK. It starts at level two, which is ILM Award in Team Leading. It ends at level 7, which includes ILM Diploma in Executive Management and Strategic Leadership. Institute of Leadership and Management also offers National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). This work based awards include the NVQ Level 5, which tackles about management. ILM has also some specialist qualifications that cover some skills in business startup, volunteer management, personnel management, and coaching.
ILM Membership.
The membership at ILM is available to managers and leaders of different levels. Individuals who are taking an ILM qualification will undergo a trial membership. ILM has a total of 5 grades of membership and members must make use of post-nominal letters such as AInstLM for Affiliate, AMInstLM for Associate Member, MInstLM for member, FInstLM for Fellow, and CInstLM for Companion. The highest level grade of membership at ILM is Companionship, which is for the senior executives that are selected by ILM personally. The membership at ILM will be validated through the official membership card and membership certificate. The members of ILM receive different kinds of services that will provide assistance to their CPD (Continuous Professional Development), which includes access to some e-courses, e-books, specialist management assistance, and events. ILM has also a magazine and it is called Edge. Every magazine issue covers the latest management and leadership concerns. The magazine is available online. You can also get it in hard copy. The magazine is distributed to the members of ILM and organizations that offer HR directors and management training.
