Besides providing a more pleasant environment, a clean and tidy house shows respect and a friendly welcome for your guests. There is no need to go into a panic if you have guests or visitors coming and you have not left enough time to completely sanitize or overhaul all the rooms in your house. There are some simple methods to quickly clean and tidy up the house with the use of cleaning supplies, so that your guests will feel comfortable, expected and appreciated.
•Make a good impression Sweep the entrance and the pathways, porch and any steps and if looking a little grimy or dusty, hose down, using a strong spray so you do not have to use too much water.
•Select areas to clean thoroughly Decide which areas your guests will most likely use or see frequently. These are the areas you need to concentrate on, which will most likely include the kitchen, bathroom, living area, guest bedroom if your guests are staying overnight and perhaps the backyard or at least the porch. Group several chores that can be taken care of quickly for all rooms such as de cluttering, dusting furniture, vacuuming or sweeping, and cleaning cobwebs from ceilings.
•De clutter Just by de cluttering and tidying up, the house will look cleaner already. Use a long handled broom covered in a cloth to wipe away cobwebs. Dust furniture surfaces with one cloth and use another cloth to polish. Sweep or vacuum the floors of each room last.
•Clean the kitchen Most people don’t think about cleaning the fridge out but guests will probably be looking in your fridge occasionally so be sure to remove any old or stale food and wipe down the racks and shelves with a warm moist cloth. Do the same for the microwave. Clean the sink last and a few drops of eyeglass cleaner wiped over the faucets and around a metal sink will make them sparkle.
•Clean the guest bathroom and bedroom for overnight guests Use an all purpose spray cleaner and rags or wash cloths to wipe over the sink area, the tub and shower stall. Swish the toilet bowl with a toilet bowl cleaner, add some pine type cleaner and flush, making it look and smell clean. Place fresh clean towels on the racks and fresh soap cakes in their holders. Consider placing a small bottle of hand lotion, some tissues and perhaps some candies in the room for your guests to use.
•Clean the living spaces inside and out If you have a leather couch, a quick wipe over first with a moist cloth then with lemon oil will remove any dust and brighten the leather. Run a damp cloth over a fabric couch to catch pet hair. Straighten rugs and decorative items. Dust, spray clean and wipe outdoor tables and chairs.
•If you have time Go around the house, spray and wipe dirty marks of inside and outside doorknobs, door handles and electric light plates with an all purpose spray cleaner.
Cleaning your house adds satisfaction on your part and people may notice it more likely because it is clean and tidy. They may not say anything but you have made a good impression.
