Every business needs a great salesperson, especially if you’re going to have them go out, and sell packages for them. Since many of them work on a commission basis, it’s a great way to get them to sign up with your company, and make good money for you. So, the question today is, “How the heck do I find a great salesperson?” There are many steps that you can take, but let me show you how you can nab one for your company.

Make your job description detailed – When you post a job description online, you’ll want to make sure you let the public know exactly what you want. If you want someone with 10 years experience in computers, you will want to mention this. Don’t just be brief, and say that you want someone with sales experience. There are a lot of different fields out there such as medical, technology, and more. Since some people will know more than others, you want to nail that right expertise.

Always review the resume – When someone sends you in a resume, you want to look it over. Don’t just scan it over, and look at a few things. Check out their previous past with employers, and make sure that you know what their job duties are. I can’t stress this enough, but this world is filled with a lot of liars that love to hype themselves up. Always make sure that you communicate with their old employers, and know if they worked there. You want to confirm everything, ask if they’ve worked there, how good of a worker they were, and more.

Interview – Write down a list of things that you want to know about this person. When you call them in, you will want to make sure that you ask them the right questions. Ask them what you want to know in terms of sales, and more. To play it safe, have them role play in the office with how their sales techniques are. Ask them how they would sell a product, etc. You’ll want to play the client, and they can play the salesperson. A good salesperson is going to have charisma, as well as good personality. You don’t want some dull deadbeat that just graduated High School that won’t get anything done for you.

Give them a trial period – With my sales guys, I give them a 90 day window. I tell them that this is their test. If they pass it, they stay. If they can’t, they won’t get to move on. It’s a great way to get them motivated and work hard. Tell them that even after the 90 days, that they will still be watched. If they always have that burden above their shoulder, they will always bring you in money.

Get out there, write a good job description online, know what you want, and ask the right questions. By doing so, you’re going to find that you can potentially land a great salesperson. By following these steps, you should have great luck!
