Iron Eagle 2: A comparably idiotic sequel, with General Gossett enlisting guide Humphrey to team with his Soviet counterparts on a secret mission in the Mideast. Cast includes Louis Gossett, Jr., Mark Humphrey, Stuart Margolin, Alan Scarfe, Sharon H. Brandon, and Maury Chaykin. (105 minutes, 1988)
Thieves like Us: 3 black sheep flee from jail in 1930s south and go on a binge. The youngest (Carradine) falls in love with an easy, ignorant gal (Duvall). In spite of recognizable trappings, Altman digs deeply into period environment and hefty characterizations. This film gets better every time you watch it. Cast includes Keith Carradine, Shelley Duvall, John Schuck, Bert Remsen, Louise Fletcher, Ann Latham, and Tom Skerritt. (123 minutes, 1987)
Fade-In: Strange little film made concurrently with Blue, in reference to a love event between film star Loden and guy she meets when performing on location. Not all that good, however an absolute curiosity on no account discharged theatrically. Cast includes Burt Reynolds, Barbara Loden, Noam Pitlik, Patricia Casey, James Hampton, and Joseph Perry. (93 minutes, 1968)
Airport: Airport is an ultra slick, old-styled film that amuses regardless of itself, detailing a chaotic fall day at a metropolitan airport. Cast includes Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, George Kennedy, Helen Hayes, Jean Seberg, Jacqueline Bisset, Van Heflin, Maureen Stapleton, Barry Nelson, Dana Wynter, Lloyd Nolan, Barbara Hale, and Gary Collins. Rocky 4: Entirely synthetic (and unessential) continuation has Rocky doin' what a guy's gotta do, avenging a buddy's downfall and fighting for the U.S.A. against a superhuman Russian champ. Still, Stallone knows how to press all the right buttons, particularly in an awesome fight scene. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burt Youthful, Brigitte Nielsen, Michael Pataki, and James Brown. (91 minutes, 1985)
The Big Trees: An ambitious lumberman Douglas runs afoul of a religious sect and nearly everybody else around him in this cornball outdoor melodrama. Cast includes Kirk Douglas, Eve Miller, Patrice Wymore, Edgar Buchanan, John Archer, Alan Hale, Jr., Roy Roberts, and Ellen Corby. (89 minutes, 1952)
Delusion: This is a hard, tight thriller in reference to a yuppie computer executive-embezzler and his plight after seeing a Las Vegas show girl and her hit man boyfriend (Secor, in an eye-opening acting job) on a Death Valley freeway committing a murder. Cast includes Jim Metzler, Jennifer Rubin, Kyle Secor, Robert Costanzo, Tracey Walter, and Jerry Orbach. (100 minutes, 1990)
Choices: A somewhat deaf adolescent Carafotes becomes disillusioned when he is stopped from playing football due to his hearing problems. Well intentioned although evident drama is helped by a fine set of acting jobs. Cast includes Paul Carafotes, Victor French, Lelia Goldoni, Dennis Patrick, Demi Moore, Billy Moses, and Pat Buttram. (90 minutes, 1981)
Barry Lyndon: This film is an attractive, methodically detailed period piece with megastar O'Neal as Thackeray's 18th-century Irish rogue idol who desires prosperity however lets it go to his head. The film is long, intentionally slow although on no account uninteresting. Cast includes Patrick Magee, Hardy Kruger, Steven Berkoff, Gay Hamilton, Murray Melvin, Frank Middlernass, and Andre Morell. (183 minutes, 1971)
