Yes having size, speed and strength advantages can assist you in knocking out your opponent easier, but what is the best technique or weak spot to use when up against a tough, well trained MMA competitor? Yes having just sheer brutal take your head off, Conan the barbarian punching power you might just be able to knock most competitors out with any type of well placed head blow. But regardless, you will probably one day come up against someone who can take a lot of blows without getting dazed.

The most common point I think most fans and fighters will agree on that is most effective is a punch to the jaw. This has certainly been the way so many boxers and MMA fighters have been taken out on TV. But what is the best point or technique? Besides the normal techniques of adding power to your punch which are speed and follow through, twisting to put your whole body weight behind it, where you hit them is just as important. The so called magic button that you need to hit to put your opponent out cold is reported to be found by tracing your finger straight down from the corner of your mouth to your chin. This is the optimum place to strike. The best way to strike? Most leverage can probably be found using a hook shot, which twists the head, creating a whiplash effect sending them to the canvas. However great success for some has been had from using and open handed slap or palm strike although this dilutes a lot of your power when compared to a hard fist. You can still get a lot of power out of a strike like this and if you aren t wearing gloves will definitely help save your knuckles.

Another important piece to have that stellar one knock out punch is all in your balance. Not the balance of your priorities but in your body. If you have ever seen an NFL quarterback throw off balance you know exactly what I am meaning. When you are off balance there is no possible way you can throw with optimum power. So you must work on your balance and that can be done with a basic balance board. So, practice on this board twice a day to increase your balance and you will start feeling yourself catching your balance much quicker than before, not to mention walking with your core centered.

It is also important that you visualize your hand going through the target so you can generate as much power as possible. If you don’t do this people tend to slow down towards impact which lessens the power at impact, much like a sprinter that is winning by 10 yards who slows down at the end of the race.

But with that said, one of the most exhilarating KOs you have ever seen must have come from a jumping knee to the head. The devastating effect this has is truly awe inspiring. They do take some practice and need the right window of opportunity. But as far as putting on an impressive show, a KO with a flying knee to the a head no doubt earn you some serious respect like it did for Anderson Silva.
