One of the most known fraud cases is the identity theft. It has been noted that everyone at least knows one person who has been a victim of this horrific crime. Fraudulent activities on stolen identities are increasing in alarming rate and many victims face issues that are difficult to resolve. This crime is a result of lack for adequate protection program and bills, which makes it more difficult to crack. What's more disturbing is that it is still on its early stages and criminals can still think of many means to conduct their ill intent.
How do identity theft victimize individuals? Let us look at the reports from the government regarding the methods used by these felons.
One most commonly used as source of information is over the Internet. The identity theft hack the computers of a victim either from his workplace or personal computer. When they get all the information they need about the victim, they pose as the same person with all the right information and obtain money from your credit card or bank loans. They can also secure an individuals identity by securing the victims credit report. They can think of all sorts of schemes like skimming, or phishing and even through robbing a victim's home just to get the information of their target victim.
I would highly recommend that you start protecting your computer if you are hooked up to the Internet. This will reduce your risk of getting hacked by nearly 80 percent.
Therefore, we should not take identity theft lightly and we should be more alert and stringent in protecting our identity. Otherwise, we may find ourselves one of the 10 million victims in United States who fell to this felony. Yeah I know these numbers even surprised me. Accordingly, there is at least one identity theft victim for every 4 seconds in US. We don't want to be part of that ugly scenario, dont we?
Being a victim to identity theft does not only cause you inconvenience because you lost your money. There was one case where the victim was wrongly issued a warrant. Another reason to be more vigilant is that it would be very difficult to secure and process bank loans and credit when you became a victim of identity theft. Your financial credibility would be tarnished. Let us not fall prey to this. Protect yourself identity the best way you can.
