Often, the first impression is the lasting impression. A beautiful smile of a person leaves a good and ever lasting impact on other people while a cold smile draws a negative image. In all smiles play an important role in the personality of a person. Thus, if the teeth behind the smile are discolored or pale yellow it may convert into embarrassment for a person to even disclose his smile. Discoloration of teeth basically refers to pale yellow, stained and improper cleaned teeth. Teeth discoloration can be of two different types:

* Extrinsic discoloration
* Intrinsic discoloration

Extrinsic discoloration is caused by the sugary substances that are frequently consumed by the mouth causing yellowing in oral cavity. Besides that intrinsic discoloration is caused by the formation of such conditions of body which leads to discoloration of teeth. Three main causes of teeth discoloration are:

1. Excessive intake of tobacco and heavy smoking
2. Improper cleaning of teeth on regular terms
3. Intake of fluoride containing substances

Five Steps to Prevent Teeth Discoloration
Hence, there are different steps which can be taken in order to prevent teeth discoloration. Five main steps to escape this problem are given below:

1. The foremost to prevent teeth discoloration is to ensure proper and regular brushing of teeth. It is also advised by every dentist to brush our teeth twice a day after getting up and before going to bed. It not only keeps the teeth white and clean but also leads towards a healthy living.

2. There are certain beverages and substances which contain excessive quantity of fluoride in them which is target as the main component leading towards yellowing of teeth. Hence, after using such substances like berries, cherries etc, we should clean our mouth by washing it with warm water and mouth fresheners.

3. Smoking and other tobacco containing products causes paleness and staining of teeth. Hence they should be avoided or seldom used. Besides that they are also challenging to life thus their excessive use can be dangerous for health.

4. Drinks like coffee, tea, wine, alcohol, beverages and other soft drinks should be used in balanced amount. As wisely said excess of everything is bad. These drinks should be tried to use with the help of a straw in order to avoid their direct contact with oral cavity.

5. Lastly one should ensure weekly visits to a dentist with or without a problem to maximize cleanliness of teeth. Hence, it can be concluded that if problems related to discoloration are caught in initial stages they can be diagnosed properly.
