CPU is the mostimport part in your PC hardware, you can choose it first when you want to build a computer.

This is my first article about the components needed when you build a computer. I will try and finish this series on components quickly so anyone following along won't be slowed down due to my articles being spread out. This post will discuss one of the most important things you will choose when building a computer.

The first thing you need to purchase when building a computer is the CPU also know as the processor. This is one of the most important things in a computer and the component you should choose first when you begin to make a computer shopping list. This will determine what motherboards you can choose from, and the overall speed of your computer. This is not the place to cut corners there are other places that you can save money if you need to but the processor is probably the worst place.

CPUs are rated based on their clock speed. Clock speed is the number of instructions per second the processor can execute. Clock speeds are rated in gigahertz which is abbreviated GHz. One gigahertz equals one billion instructions per second. Processors with a higher clock speed are usually better, but now that we have processors with multiple cores that may not always be the case. Aside from the clock speed the other thing you need to pay attention to is the socket that the CPU fits in once you pick a processor remember the socket you will need that for the next component.

The first processor I will suggest is for the basic internet surfing computer is the Intel Pentium e2200. It is rated a 2.2 GHz. This processor is a solid choice for a computer that is going to be used for general internet browsing and office applications. For a video editing or gaming computer you will want a processor with a little more power for this I would recommend the Intel q6600 or the q9400.

Both the q6600 and the q9400 are quad core processors which will be helpful when playing games or editing movies. If you have a bigger budget for a gaming computer one of the best processors out now is the Intel core 2 Extreme QX9650.
