If you find the cost of e-books available on commercial sites such as Amazon too expensive, there are many sites where you can download free ebooks. Most of these ebooks are in pdf format, although various formats are available, depending on the title. Many Books has over 21,000 ebooks in various genres and languages (including Chinese, Sanskrit and Maori). You can download free ebooks in a variety of formats, from pdf to assorted e-reader formats. All you have to do is select the desired format in the popdown menu and save the file to your computer.
Get Free Ebooks is a relatively bare-bones site compared to other free e-book sites; however, you can submit your e-book to be posted on the site for free. If you are a qualified IT professional, you can avail of free subscriptions to IT trade publications from the site.
Finally, the Globusz Publishing site is a great place to discover new and upcoming authors whose ebooks are developed by Globusz itself, by visiting the Our Authors area of the site. These new authors are also spotlighted on the home page of the Globusz site, along with short biographical profiles. You can download free ebooks of these authors, or read them online; you can also have discussions with these authors by joining the Globusz Book Club, which allows you to post your reviews to the blog and gives authors the chance to respond to these posts.
