A special festive late shopping night on Thursday 19th November kicks off the Christmas season in York this year. An ice sculpture of an angel will take place in St Sampson's Square along with the decoration of the Christmas tree in St Helen's Square marking some of the family festivities taking place.
The most popular event in York's Christmas calendar, St Nicholas Fayre takes place on the 26th November this year and is then followed on the York event calendar by the annual Festival of Angels which takes place on 12-13 December.
The combination of a colourful programme of events, the nightly ghost walks around York, and the narrow cobbled medieval streets and gothic architecture , and you have undoubtedly an exciting winter season for visitors to enjoy while visiting York.
St Nicholas Fayre is certainly an event not to miss out on when you can experience a Victorian market with period costume traders, carol singers, and the delicious smells of roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate. St Nicholas Fayre begins on Thursday 26th November and lasts for 4 days.
