When it comes to quitting smoking, there are millions of people who try to run that race only to find themselves smoking again another month later, if they make I that long without giving into their cravings. The reason for this can largely be attributed to a lack of will power, or more appropriately a lack of exercising will power. The truth is that there is no easy way to quit smoking, only ways of making it easier. Here are some tips that may very well help make it easier to achieve your goal of a tobacco and smoke free life.
If you are trying to quit, then it is important that you break the smoker mentality. You need to tell yourself repeatedly, no matter how little time it has been since you last smoked, that you are no longer a smoker and that your smoking habit is in the past. If you do this then you will have taken the first positive step to a smoke free life. After you have done that, you must then take all of your cigarettes, your ash trays, and your lighters and then throw them in the dumpster.
After you have thrown away all of your smoking supplies, you need to find a friend or family member who can hold you accountable and keep you motivated as you try to quit. This person can try to keep you from buying cigarettes or even just be there to talk to you whenever you find that the urge to smoke is too strong. It is important that you have someone you can talk to, as your nicotine addiction is just that, an addiction. The cravings will most likely become too much for you at one point or another and you may backslide. But having a friend to talk to will lessen the burden.
It is also important that you manage to talk to your doctor at some point about quitting. If your doctor believes that the gums or patches will do you some good, then by all means use them, but this does not mean that they are a good substitute for good old fashioned will power. Many smokers fail when they try to quit due to the fact that they rely too much on the gums and patches, and ultimately pay the price. So remember to keep yourself motivated throughout your journey, and soon enough you will have a smoke free life.
