Chickens are fun to watch and they can provide you eggs and meat. Oftentimes people buy chickens and let them live outside and to find whatever shelter they can offer for themselves. There are two issues with raising chickens in that demeanour, the first are the numerous predators that are hunting your chickens, there are numerous stray dogs that will erase a flock of chickens not to say skunks and other animals.

The second problem is they do not lay eggs well when they're raised that way and when they do lay eggs it is hard to find them. In this article I'm going to offer you 2 different ideas about how to make a chicken coop.

The first and easiest way to make a chicken coop is to convert a shed or an older camp trailer. The camp trailer works rather well because there is very tiny modification to be done. The most that has to be done is to take the cabinet doors off and take away the table. There are all prepared lots of areas that they can roost.

The cabinet areas make good laying boxes, all you have got to do is put some straw in the cabinets and they will make their own laying areas. Once you have made this conversion it is simple to build a covered chicken run off the front of the trailer, it is vital to remember to dam off the underside of the trailer so that your chickens do not escape beneath.

A note of caution, if you intend to convert an old camp trailer into a chicken coop be sure you dont propose to use it for anything more. You can generally find old camp trailers around for $200.00-$300.00 you may even get them free infrequently if you're willing to tug them away.

So, you are now armed with a couple of wonderful reasons to raise your own chickens. All that you need now is a place to keep them. This brings us to building your own chicken coop. You must know that you can purchase pre-fabricated chicken shacks, but in the end it is essentially a waste of money. Making your own chicken coup can be quite simple, and highly reasonable.

The very first thing you have to know is what kind of space you need to work with. If your yard is tiny, you probably won't be in a position to have a massive coop, meaning less chickens. If this is the case, a portable chicken house could be a smart idea. Sometimes, a transportable chicken shed can hold about two or three chickens.

If you take care of your chickens then they are going to take good care of you for along time.

You may ponder whether it is pricey, or if you have the materials. It is reasonably expensive if you hire someone to build it for you. This could cost 300-600 greenbacks. However, you can build one with only a drill, screwdriver, and handsaw, and of course some wood.

Now, simply measure between the walls and floor for height and from foundation to foundation for the back and side walls. Use good thick plywood for this, at least inch. Do the exact same for the front wall, but cut out several doorways from the plywood so that the chickens can enter and exit. With that, the coop itself is virtually finished. Now all you need to do is take some 1x5 boards and run them into the doorways angled to the ground so your chickens can enter and exit simply. A quick wire mesh fence around it all later and you have got your completed chicken enclosure. At the most, you might have $40.00 invested. Many folks even use second user lumber to save even more money.

Be aure to put hay within the doorways. This is to be sure that your chicken can use it for nesting. And in some days it's time to enjoy your fresh farm eggs... You can also sell your eggs and make some extra money!
