Heavy equipment has become a term that we here often but that many of us do not fully understand. What exactly is heavy equipment or heavy machinery?

It has become more and more accepted that heavy equipment or machinery is simple any tool or device that we use to aid us and that cannot be moved by hand because of its size. Heavy equipment shapes our everyday lives, and many times we do not even realize it.

Those that are working the heavy equipment and machinery are trained and have often gone through different certification processes to ensure that they know what they are doing while they work.

There are four main categories that this heavy duty equipment usually falls into. Lifting or carrying large objects, generating power, moving earth and cutting or joining materials are the usual categories.

First, we will discuss lifting and carrying. Especially in the field of construction there are objects that could never be lifted by humans.

Although this is very prevalent in construction, it is also prevalent in many different settings. Understanding that we have to move different objects that are too large for us to move created the development of tools to move them.

From the early times of the Egyptians making the pyramids, men have utilized their surrounding tools to lift and carry large objects. When the Egyptians were rolling large pieces of stone across the surrounding dessert, they were, in a sense, using heavy equipment.

Obviously, the technology that we use nowadays had become much more advanced. The exertion that a human being has to put out to use one of these machines is usually very minimal.

Cranes and forklifts are prime examples of tools that are used to move large objects. When we need to transport these large objects for long distances we often times use trucks and trains.

We use the power of electricity almost all day every day. Whether we are enjoying the air conditioning on a hot day or we turn on the light in a dark room, we are using electricity.

We often do not take the time to fully realize the effect that the generation of power has on us. Because of recent technology the generation of power in even the most remote places has become possible.
'
There are generators that are small enough to be towed by a truck and there are also generators that have to be brought in by rail or by air to remote locations. These generators have enabled scientists to study even the most extreme conditions.

Within a generator there are multiple parts that must work together in order for the final product to be energy. This piece of machinery is complicated and life changing.

If we did not have the machines that have enabled us to move earth we would not have the facilities that we have today. We have been able to build great buildings and structures because of our ability to move the earth.

We can use this equipment to move, fill, excavate and even shape the land around us. Two of the most familiar pieces of machinery in this genre are the bulldozers and the backhoes.

Changing the lands condition with a piece of machinery that we have developed has proved to be invaluable to the human race. We have the ability to create from the earth the situation that we need to expand.

Another component of building is the ability that we have to cut things apart and to join things together. This may seem fairly insignificant because of how common it sounds, but it really does have a large impact on our world.

Through these abilities we are able to take the metal waste that we accumulate it and compact it until it is recyclable. We are not only able to take things apart with this technology but we are also able to build new things.

With the use of saws we are not only able to complete industrial tasks but we loggers are also able to cut the trees that they have felled. Metal does not come in the pieces that we want it to be in for our building; instead we have to make it that way.

Plate rollers are part of this process as well. They enable us to roll metal to the desired width and shape that we need the metal to be in order for us to utilize the material as we build new buildings all around us.
