We adore our offspring and we would like to teach them to appreciate the things that are central to us. These things consist of morals, integrity, resourcefulness, and an appreciation of the things in life that we all consider beautiful and worth expending our energy, time, and effort in order to produce.

One of the pleasures that many of us enjoy sharing with our children is our enjoyment of gardening. Regardless of whether you are making a beautiful garden worthy of praise, fame, and blue ribbons everywhere or a simple garden that is going to hold pretty flowers and a few preferred vegatables, there are many lessons which your children can learn from working the earth by your side.

The foremost, and possibly best, discovery that most children realize when working in the garden area is that life works in cycles. This is an important lesson for kids, as it is a lesson that will be repeated frequently during the course of their lives. Of course this is only one of the scores of lessons that gardening will teach but gardening is one of the nicest ways I've ever witnessed this specific lesson learned plus it helps ease kids into the times when lessons about the cycle of life are not so compassionately or gently offered.

The next message that growing a garden teaches kids is that persistent effort quite often pays out with delightful results. Whether their gardening labors yielded sweet peppers or pretty flowers, there is quite often a preferred result that is accomplished in the course of growing a garden. If you genuinely wish to capture your kids's interest when it comes to gardening, choose a rapid growing plant for their initial gardening experience. The capacity to see the fruits of their work quickly emerge is often one of the greatest gifts we can offer our kids.

If you want to steer your children towards the avenue of establishing a summer garden without the fanfare or responsibility, you may want to begin simply. Perhaps with a potted plant or a hanging tomato plant or a small space garden that will produce visible and tasty results with a good deal less effort, time, or attention being necessary in order to achieve quick and enthusiastic results.
Be sure to point out interesting facts about the different plants in your garden which may be exciting to children to learn. Remember your earliest gardening experiences and share them with your children. You might be astonished to discover how much you have in common with your children when it comes to thoughts and enthusiasm concerning summer time gardens.

When planning a summer garden with young children you need to consider all of the things you would think about when planning other summer gardens but relate those details to pint sized hands and absorbant young minds. Kids soak up every small amount of information we provide them at an alarming rate. Be vigilant that you are not teaching them inaccurate logic when it comes to growing a garden and growing beautiful summer plants.

More significantly, you must make a concerted effort to insure that you are giving your kids the positive factors of gardening so that this becomes an activity they look to for enjoyment and delight instead of approaching with dread. You must also take great pains to make sure that you allow your kids to cultivate the things they will like in your summer garden too. Strawberries and watermelon are common favorites for youthful hands to raise since little mouths take pleasure in eating these delicious fruits that can be raised in nearly all gardens. Children also like to cultivate flowers that they can tend and observe throughout the summer if flowers are your summer garden calling rather than food.

When gardening with kids there are many lessons which you are able to teach your kids along the way. Science, math, and meteorology all have roles in gardening but you should also be on the lookout for the important lessons that your kids can teach you concerning gardening and life in general when you take them out to toil with you in your small space garden.
