So you say that you have tried to quit smoking before, have you? And you say that attempt was just that: an attempt. You have tried time after time to quit smoking, but you find that you just cannot do it. You have tried gums, and patches, and self help books. You have tried support groups, and even gone so far as to give acupuncture a try, and even that did not seem to do anything for you. Well, ask yourself one question: How badly do I want to quit smoking? More often than not, many smokers try to kick the habit without really wanting to. Suffice to say that there are many smokers who just do not want to quit smoking, but either due to health concerns, or due to complaints from friends and family members, they try anyway, only to fail. The problem is that you have to want to quit smoking for yourself. If you truly do wish to quit smoking, but feel you lack the willpower to resist cigarette cravings, then here are some tips you may find helpful.

The first thing you need to keep in mind is that all of those quit smoking aids you have used in the past are not going to do the work for you. Yes, they may help curb an individual craving, and yes they may help you resist a couple of urges, but gums and patches only go so far. You have to be able to resist a craving on your own, because you will not always have your gums or patches on hand. In some cases the gums and patches can backfire and leave you craving even more nicotine, so having the willpower to back up the aids is extremely important.

You also have to make a conscious effort to just not smoke. You have to tell yourself that you are no longer a smoker, and that you will never be a smoker again. If you can break the mindset of being a smoker, then you will no longer even think about cigarettes or smoking again. Keep in mind that while it is a difficult task, it will be all the more worth it when you are living a smoke free life.

You should also just take the time you would have normally spent smoking to do something more constructive to get your mind off of it. And remember, anything worth having is going to be difficult to attain, but will be all the more rewarding when you do.
