Each and every year the children across this country are exposed to dangerous and sometimes deadly school bus accidents. Injuries suffered in a school bus accident can range from serious personal injuries, broken ankle to death. No to mention the mental trauma a child will suffer. Recovering for physical pain and suffering and economic loss, past and present, is difficult in today’s legal system without experienced and local injury attorneys.

School bus accident statistics raise many other alarming issues for our children. In fact, being injured by a school bus in Texas, can be fatal. If you or someone you know has been injured in a school bus accident, you should retain experienced school bus accident attorneys. Did you know that every year hundreds of traffic fatalities occur involving a school bus -- all to often young children are injured or killed in school bus accidents. In 2003, over 450,000 large vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 10,000 pounds were involved in traffic crashes in the United States; 4,669 heavy vehicles were involved in fatal traffic accidents. The costs for fatal traffic accidents exceed well over $20 billion, including $8.7 billion in productivity losses, $2.5 billion in resource costs, and quality of life losses valued at $13.1 billion. A vehicle is considered large if its gross vehicle weight rating exceeds 10,000 pounds.

In many cases involving school buses, the following are determined as the cause of the loss:

* Running off the road
* Following to close to other vehicles
* Failure to yield the right of way
* Aggressive school bus driving behavior
* Lack of training on the part of the driver
* Overloaded buses
* Poorly maintained brakes
* School bus in poor condition
* Weather conditions are poor due to fog, snow, rain, or smoke
* School Bus driver inexperience or lack of training
* Fatigued, sleepy or tired school bus operators
* Drivers of the school bus driving over the speed limit or driving the school bus at high speeds
* School bus operator driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol
* Unsafe safety systems, reflectors, lights, and other warning devices

Did you know that school buses are the biggest type of mass transit in the United States, providing almost nine million student trips every year. In comparison, this is twice as many passenger trips than are provided by transit buses across the nation. Almost half a million school buses transport 24 million students to and from school, or school related activities, each school day. It is our belief that school bus accidents are all too common.
