The most likely place to see children bond is on the play ground, forming sometimes lifelong friendships. Team building for children is directed at making them more focused and productive members of society by instilling in them a self empowering attitude and a team mentality. Team building for children is also a way that many communities keep their youth out of trouble, these groups that incorporate team building games in to their programs include after school club activities, scouts and girl guides association, community youth centers and so on. There are a number of games that are fun for kids as shown below.
Seven up is a game where seven students are chosen to be it; the rest of the class then close their eyes and put their heads down with one thumb up. The seven students at the front of the class then touch one student each. After the student is touched he puts his/ her thumb down, the seven then go to the front of the class and everyone can now look up. The seven who were touched then stand up and guess who touched them. If they guess right they can have a turn being it and replace the student that touched them. The students who are not identified by those who are it have another turn. This game is good to keep students quiet.
Another fun game for team building for kids is Simon says where one student takes the role of Simon and gives commands, beginning by saying Simon says. This could for example be, “Simon says wave.” Or “Simon says sit down.” The gist of the game is to catch those who are not paying attention and putting them out of the game by giving a command without having said “Simon says” first. The best way to do this is catching them by surprise before saying the command for example after having said about 5 Simon says in a row, “Simon”, can then say, “Put a hand on your forehead.” And whoever follows is out.
An interesting game that will also strengthen word power and vocabulary for kids is called Acrostics. These are a group of words where in each line there are certain letters, when put in a particular order spell out a word. Participants are asked to give introductions using words that best describe them and making it that these words create acrostics of their names. This game can be played by elementary or primary school children to high school teens as well. Body speller is another fun team building game for kids. It involves first dividing the group into 2 or more teams and then assigning a speller who is not allowed to speak. The speller will be given directions as to which body part they can use to spell for example the index finger or foot. The team that gets the most words wins. This game improves the spatial awareness of children.
Animal kingdom is a game where, depending on the size of the group (more animals for a large group), the children pick from a list of animals which they most identify with (from for example a tiger, dolphin, eagle and unicorn. They then pick their respective animals.
