If you’ve been searching for ways to make money online for any length of time, you may well be suffering from a fried brain. Web 2.0 is a quite new phrase that presents just one more confusing option, it would seem.
There is undoubtedly gold at the end of the Web 2.0 road but it’s important to understand that Web 2.0 or ‘Social Media’ is only about the transport of visitors to a web site or to an affiliate offer page. It’s not the pot of gold in by itself.
We must never lose sight of the truth that folks buy online for their reasons, not yours. A better rallying call than “how can I find ways to make money online?” therefore would be “how can I fill that person’s need?”
Disregard the ‘get rich quick’ peddlers. That only leads to frustration and heartache. Look to service a market and the money will follow. It won’t happen the other way round. If your ‘driver’ is to squeeze cash out of folks without giving value, then you can always join the ‘black hat’ marketers. Expect to be looking over your shoulder though!
Marketers have differing ideas on the best ways to make money online, but one thing they all agree on is that building a list of people who are open to your e-mail communications is paramount.
To build this list, you can of course use Web 2.0 methods, some of which I’ll list in a second. But first you’ll need to set up a "gateway" page that offers a free report or mini-course that delivers genuine value to your target market. For them to download this material, they have to give you their first name and e-mail address. That’s the deal. (You don't have to be the originator of this report, provided you have distribution rights, which you'll be able to see from the book's legal page).
For this to be effective, you’ll need to set up an autoresponder account - I recommend Aweber - which will generate a form box for you and give you some html code to place on your site. That way, all visitors who download your free e-book automatically join your list.
Building this list to hundreds and thousands of people can provide large passive income for you and your family. Once you have 500 or preferably 1000, then other marketers may well want to ‘adswap’ with you - where you get to mail an offer to each others’ lists. This can be executed with bigger and bigger numbers, over time.
Web 2.0 has become a great way of connecting with many people you would never otherwise meet. If you contribute positively and don’t just keep spamming your offer all over the place, then you can attract many Web 2.0 users to your squeeze pages.
Facebook has massive traffic, and not only can you build a profile for yourself specific to your marketing niche, but you can also advertise at rates that are very competitive. Promote the link to your squeeze page, without ramming it down people’s throats.
Twitter can also provide a platform for you to access like-minded people. It’s well worth looking at Twellow.com, the ‘Yellow Pages’ of Twitter, where you can target hordes of people with the same interest. Other sites where you can build a following and a community include Gather.com, Myspace.com and LinkedIn.com.
If your chosen ways to make money online include content-writing, then head over to sites like Hubpages.com, Squidoo.com and Scribd.com. Also, don’t forget social bookmarking - a ‘slow burn’ but highly effective method of marketing yourself. Check out Digg.com just for starters. Also, I highly recommend you consider starting a blog. Go to Wordpress.org for that.
