Are you faced with decorating a reception venue that is a little blah? Or maybe the venue is pretty enough, but you just don t want your wedding to look like every other one that has been held there this year? If these situations sound familiar, there is an easy solution: spice up your reception venue with color!
Even if you are having a fairly traditional all white wedding ceremony, you can have some fun with color at your reception. There are countless ways to enhance your reception with color, from small accents to bold brush strokes. It is all a question of your personal style and how much of a transformation you are trying to bring about at the site.
Let s face it, not every reception venue comes decorated in a fabulous way. Many are the perfect size or a gorgeous location, but may have bland interiors or ones that have not been recently updated. No problem; you can really make over a space using well placed colorful accents. The right decorations will highlight the venue s best features while obscuring any that are less appealing.
Of course, your wedding centerpieces are the most logical place to introduce color. You will want the colors of the centerpieces to look nice with the bridesmaid dresses and to work with any décor in the room that you cannot change, like wall or carpet colors. This is not to say that you need to match the flowers to the colors in your venue if you do not particularly care for them; just make sure they don t clash. For instance, if your venue has brown carpeting, you could make the space feel lighter and more feminine by using a profusion of pink flowers. A mustard yellow wall color would recede in a room filled with rich purple blossoms. You get the concept.
Color can also be a very effective device to draw the eye away from an unattractive feature in a room. If your venue has an acoustic tile ceiling, pull the eye down with brightly colored table linens. No one will see the ceiling when the tables are adorned in fab lime green tablecloths. You can also use subdued or dark colors as a masking agent. For instance, sometimes a corner of a room will have some sort of ventilation work that is an eyesore. A screen in a dark color will make that area of the room a non factor.
Even if you love your reception space just the way it is, you can still have fun introducing some pops of color to add visual interest. Classic white tablecloths will look much more special when they are topped with amethyst colored glass chargers under the place settings. Centerpieces with flowers in several shades of purple mixed with green accents would be the perfect finishing touch.
And don t forget about how the people in the wedding party will bring more color to a room. Think about how your bridesmaids dresses will look in your reception venue. As for the bride, it can be really fun to have a set of custom bridal jewelry made in your chosen wedding colors to wear for the reception. If you want to be a traditional bride for the ceremony, start with classic white pearl jewelry. Then between the ceremony and the reception, slip into your colorful custom bridal jewelry. It is a great way to signal the shift into party mode and to add an element of surprise to your grand entrance. Besides, no matter how fabulous you make your reception venue look, the bride should always be the most stunning attraction in the room!
