There can be nothing more inconvenient than having to submit a car insurance claim. This topic can be seen as quite taboo, involving lots of time and hassle, and the ever present threat of your claim being rejected. There are, however, some simple ways and means of handling your claim process, so that it runs efficiently and without hassles.

Firstly, you need to ensure that you have everything in order before you even have the accident. When you first sign up for your insurance policy, you need to make sure that you have read through the details of the policy properly before you sign on the dotted line. There can be many hidden clauses and details to your policy that you are not aware of, which can cause problems in the claim process. When you take out your insurance policy, you must make sure that you are receiving the exact level of coverage that you desire. If you want further coverage for faults of nature, extensive theft coverage and the like, you need to take the time to speak to your insurance broker and make sure that these extras are added in your policy.

The next thing you need to do is to ensure that you have a little kit in your motor vehicle for when the collision occurs. This should include a notebook, a disposable camera and your insurance company's details. The notebook will be useful for drawing your diagram of how the accident occurred. A diagram of the accident scene is usually a necessity from the insurance company. Furthermore, if you have a camera, you will be able to take photos of the damages to the motor vehicles, so that any other parties in the accident cannot commit insurance fraud. On the accident scene, you need to call your insurance company. Sometimes they will send a broker out to assess the level of damages. In some instances your insurer will have designated towing companies who have to handle your accident. It is very important that you do not take on the services of just any tow truck company if you have a designated insurance company. They usually work in conjunction with specific tow truck and repair shop companies.

After your collision, you need to contact your insurance company immediately. Talk them through what happened, and follow their lead on the claim process. They will probably send you some forms to fill in. Complete these forms as quickly as possible, and ensure that you fill in all the information correctly. They will usually send investigators onto the case to ascertain that all information you tell them is completely accurate. If you have any confusion whilst filling these forms in, it is imperative that you query with your insurance broker so that you are completing everything correctly.

It will be a stressful time when you have a collision. Most insurance companies will give you a guide on what to do when you have an accident, and the procedure to follow in the claim process. Arm yourself with education and you should have a relatively hassle free claim process.
