Have you made the decision to purchase a new duvet? If so, you can feel confident that you have taken the first step to creating a warm and comfortable environment for you to sleep in. If you have not yet purchased a new duvet but want to get one, you may want to keep the following information in mind when it comes time to go shopping.

The first thing that you need to keep in mind is the size of the duvet you are going to buy. Most duvets correspond in size to standard bedding sizes. However, don't let generic terms such as "oversize" be your guide. Measure the width of your mattress and add the measurement corresponding to how far down on your bed you want the duvet to fall. Remember that once you are under the covers it will cause the duvet to not fall quite as far down the side of the bed.

This is important for picking the right size duvet for your bed. You want to make sure that you are not uncovered at all because you will not be able to keep warm. You can usually find the dimensions of duvets on the packaging or you can ask an employee to measure the duvet so that you can be sure you are picking the right size for your bed.

You also need to think about the fill that is in the duvet itself. There are three main types of fill. The first is down. This is made up of the feathers of birds. Usually the down of geese or ducks is used. The fluffy parts of the feathers trap air and help to insulate you so that your body heat does not escape. This is what helps to keep you warm.

Many people are allergic to feathers and if you are one of these people a feather filled duvet may not be something you want to have. There are also duvets that are filled with synthetic fill and ones that are filled with silk fibers. Either of these are great options as they are quite warm. Silk is considered to be one of the best fillers, even for people who can tolerate feather filled duvets. However they are quite expensive so if cost is an issue you may end up with a synthetic fill duvet.

Taking the time to consider your options as far as size and fill can mean that you end up with the right duvet to keep you warm and comfortable in even the coldest temperatures.
