An hours drive north of Brisbane and you will come to the Sunshine Coast. The Sunshine Coast begins at Calondra and stretches to Cooloola, the gateway to Fraser Island and includes the Glass House Mountains, Noosa Hinterland and the Mary Valley as well as boasting over 100 kilometres of beaches. This is more refined and elegant than the flashy Gold coast and offers pristine beaches and plenty of activities for both couples and families.
You can go on tranquil strolls in the rainforest, and of course there are golf courses and spas. There are lots of outdoor activities as well, fishing, canoeing, and river play as well as surfing and swimming. This is an ideal place to relax, it has a perfect mix of country and coast.
Of course, you must visit the Australia Zoo in Beerwah. The late Steve Irwin , aka the Crocodile Hunter, made this zoo his home. It is very well laid out and has a nice variety of animals. There are many activities to do inside the zoo, and it is a great place to take the kids. The Irwin family members are still there, and readily seen, all of the staff is happy to help.
The Big Pineapple in Woombye is a great place to visit, as well. It is a working plantation of over 80 hectares that grows pineapple. They have a wildlife reserve you can tour, as well. You can pan for gold, as well. Take a trip on the Valley Rattler in Mary Valley. It is a steam train that rides along a very pretty view, leaving from Gympie station. At Underwater World you can dive with sharks and swim with seals.
With the surf, hinterland and the sun, its no surprise that the Sunshine Coast also offers outstanding food, always fresh and often organic .The local cuisine makes the most of the local produce and you can literally taste your way around the most natural settings in the world.
