Paintball is a war game that requires not only warlike physical fitness but also sharp strategic thinking on the part of the players. Normally, two teams participate in it, each with a minimum of two players. It is popular alike in adults and kids who often see it as an advanced or improved version of the game of tag. Types of Paintball Games
A game of paintball can have infinite varieties. The most popular of these which is often played in tournaments is Capture the Flag. The aim of every team in this game is to move to the other team's base, capture its flag and carry it to a predetermined location, while safeguarding its own flag.
There are many obstacles in the field like tyres, fortresses, old cars, hay and the latest addition 'inflatables', that is inflated rubber shapes of various types. These obstacles serve as the refuge to the advancing team players investing the game with real excitement of a war game.
Advancing players of one team are fired at by the opposing team with paintball guns. When a player is hit, he may be briefly hurt and occasionally get some bruises. That's why players are required to wear an elaborate safety gear and a typical dress consisting of long sleeve shirt and pant, of a color different from that of the judge to avoid any confusion of identity.
Like every game, paintball too has a well-defined set of rules that have to be strictly followed. As regards introduction of any new rule or alteration of an existing one, the organizer of the tournament is the sole authority. Game is overseen by marshals whose decision is final. No complaint or appeal against their decision is allowed and no disputes entertained.
Approaches to the Game
It is futile to follow the conventional military approach to the game as it is well-known and well-understood by all the teams. Instead, a team must plan a careful strategy with new and surprising tactics to baffle the other team. It should also be ready with an alternative or contingency plan, and be able to quickly change tactics in case the original plan is understood by the other team.
Teamwork is the key while advancing on the paintball field. As a player advances, other team mates should be ready to protect him with covering fire whenever necessary. Only that team can succeed in this game which moves together with clearly formulated plan executed with wholehearted team work.
Another crucial element on the field is communication. If you spot an opposing team member, you can shout out his position. As soon as he is seen and hit, the game is up for him and the chances for your team increase. So don't keep a mum on the field, shout and inform about the location of the opposing team members to your own team whenever possible.
And finally, the excitement of the game concludes for you when you are seen and eliminated. So, carefully conceal yourself from the enemy and keep away from their firing range. With these basics in mind, you will not only have the full enjoyment of the game, but also greater chances of winning.
