Virtually everybody will snore from time to time. It can, however, affect your sleep patterns and lead to tiredness, increased irritability and other problems. There are a number of natural sleeping aids that you can adopt to ensure that your partner does not send to the spare room - or go there themselves.
But that doesn't need to be the solution to the problem as there are many treatments that can alleviate your snoring and once you know what these are and master them three things will get better - health, relationship and sleep.
It is important that you know what is causing you sleepless nights and how bad your snoring might be. Once you have identified these, you can find the cure to provide the solution to this problem. It is probably a good idea to begin with some snoring aids that are naturally not invasive to see if these assist in relieving or stopping you snore.
To start with, try sleeping on your side as this simple task may be enough to stop you snoring, especially if you normally sleep on your back and you are not a strong snorer. You could try raising the bedhead a few inches as it could assist breathing and move your jaw and tongue further to the fore. If possible, attempt to sleep without the use of pillows to help neck muscles.
Another remedy for helping reduce snoring is to avoid certain foods, alcohol and medications before bed as they make throat and tongue muscles more relaxed, which makes snoring more likely. Taking tranquillers or sleeping pills may help you sleep, but they will also relax your muscles and increase the chance of snoring. High-fat milk products can lead to snoring as well so also avoid them.
Losing weight can be a good snoring aid, particularly if your snoring is only moderate. Even a small weight loss can vastly reduce or stop snoring as it will reduce fatty tissue at the rear of the throat. Many people who suffer chronic snoring have been found to be middle-aged and overweight with other medical problems.
Snoring is associated with sleep apnea, which can be life threatening condition and requires the person to reawaken in order to be able to breathe again. Somebody with this may wake up several times a night to start breathing again but have no memory of it. Whilst snoring is commonly a symptom of sleep apnea, it does not in itself constitute stopping breathing.
If after trying these natural snoring aids your snoring is no better, consult your doctor.
