The goal of a team in a typical paintball game is to capture the opponents' flag and bring it to its own base. So, every team has two clear cut objectives- to attack the enemy's base and defend its own. Further, once the attacking squad captures the opponents' flag, it has to bring it to its own base. The alternative goal is to eliminate all the opponents by shooting them with paintballs. This alternative goal, however, cannot be pursued independently; it is accomplished while pursuing the first objective itself.

The team must plan a strategy before proceeding with its attack. The team leader should determine the roles of each team member, like who should be sent on attack and who should be kept back to defend the base. The players on attack must take care to avoid the opponents' paintballs so as to continue in the game. On the other hand, they must eliminate every opponent who tries to prevent them from reaching his team flag, by shooting them with paintballs. The whole plan must be very skillfully executed to ensure success.

The veterans in the game have the experience to plan and implement the right strategy to capture their opponents' flags. However, the beginners are often wilder in their actions and movements on the field. So, if you are new to the game, control your instincts and carefully execute your role in the strategy already decided by your team leader.

If players on attack are overcautious of being shot, they would tend to be more defensive forgetting that they are supposed to accompany and help their teammates in carrying out the attack. Obviously, the advance of the team would be hampered.

On the other hand, being unnecessarily aggressive can spoil the whole plan of the team. It may result in careless exposure and elimination. So, each member should keep in mind the strategy agreed upon and back up other players without being too timid or a careless Rambo.

At times, there may be reasons to back down and retreat. During such times, the team members should find a safe area for refuge, and allow each other a safe passage by providing covering fire, eliminating, at the same time, those opponents on chase who recklessly expose themselves in the heat of the moment. As soon as an opportunity arises the team should bounce back and resume the attack.

Once the flag is captured and is being brought to the base, the opponents would desperately try to prevent it, and in the process, often expose themselves. This will be a good opportunity for you to eliminate them and reach your goal of winning the game. But remember that this will happen only if your team members cooperate and follow the game plan.
