Although it is not advisable to sacrifice quality over price when selecting the paintball gear, yet you can certainly get a good and feature rich paintball gun at a reasonable price if you take care of certain essential points while purchasing one. This article intends to help you in it.

First of all, decide what features you want in your paintball gun. You can get a feel of various features of by borrowing some from your friends in the game and trying them on different paintball fields.

However, don't get carried away by the bewildering varieties you come across. Be realistic about your skill level and also about frequency of your game. If you are a beginner, and not sure how often you would be playing, choose an inexpensive gun.

If you essentially want to play for recreation, you needn't spend a fortune. Many good quality recreational guns are available in the market at reasonable prices. However, the reverse is also true. There are many poor quality ones also in the market which your shopkeeper may try to trick you into buying. Therefore, do research the market to ensure that the gun you buy is good and dependable.

If you plan to participate in tournaments, think out what type of tournaments you will be playing in. If you are thinking of small tournaments only, you can make do with a less expensive gun. However, it would be better if it is an upgradeable one so that you can upgrade it in case you decide to enter bigger tournaments later on.

However, if your eyes are on the bigger tournaments right from the beginning, you need an electro-pneumatic or a blow-forward gun, which would cost you at least $350.

It is actually the pressure system of the gun that determines its price. The less expensive guns use the carbon-dioxide pressure system. The primary disadvantage with these guns is that their performance fluctuates with the temperature outside. If the temperature outside falls too low, carbon dioxide changes into a liquid state which results in velocity instability and inaccurate shooting.

The other variety is the air-and-nitrogen pressure system gun. Since nitrogen never liquefies even at the lowest temperatures outside, these guns are always accurate. However, these guns are more expensive and used only by professional players, or those playing in big tournaments. So, if you are a beginner, go for a carbon-dioxide one and chose an air-and-nitrogen gun only if you are aiming big in the game.

Some accessories also go along with the gun that increase its price. One of these is a loader or hopper. It is used to load paintballs into the gun. It is also available in many varieties including powered and automated ones which are naturally more expensive, as are faster and lighter ones. So, here also you have to exercise your judgment to decide which one is most suitable for you. The guideline again is that choose the more expensive ones only if you are really very serious about the game.

One last thing to remember, just about any gun you buy will not be perfect and will always found to have some flaws. So, while choosing a gun for you, double check the choices on offer, compare their prices, and purchase only what you really need. This way you will be able to enjoy the game without too big a hole in your pocket.
