The teenage years are a great time to get into the habit of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise can be defined as sustained, rhythmic activity, that involves the large muscle groups in the body, to increase the heart rate for a period of time.

Teens seem to be powerhouses full of energy anyway; aerobic exercise is a constructive way for them to burn that energy. Even though teens have so much energy, they should still make sure that they increase their exercise routine slowly. Just like anyone else, it is important to gradually work up to a more intense workout to avoid injury. Fast walking is a great way to begin to incorporate aerobic exercise into the daily routine of anyone who is just starting out with an exercise routine.

Swimming is another fantastic exercise for anyone who is beginning to bring exercise into their daily life. Other suggestions such as bicycling, ice or roller skating and jumping rope are great ways to exercise that allow teens to have fun with their friends. Over time, the length and intensity of the exercise routine may be slowly increased. It is crucial that teens do not overextend themselves, especially when just introducing aerobic exercise into their daily lives. Increasing the intensity too quickly could cause serious injury and thus discourage the teenager from getting into the exercise habit. Their body will need some time to recover from overly intense exercise.

Teens need to be encouraged to want to include aerobic exercise in their daily schedule. It is a valuable tool that they can carry with them throughout their lives. Encourage them to work out with their friends. It's a fun hobby that you can support your teens taking part in. Promoting exercise for teenagers is a great way to insure that they stay healthy into adulthood. It's just a matter of redirecting their energy to get teenagers to participate in a regular exercise program.

If more teenagers realized the health advantages that exercise provides and appreciated the long term benefits, there would be far fewer overweight or obese adults. It's one of the most significant lessons that parents can give to their children.

Coupled with exercise for teenagers, one should include lessons in how to eat a well balanced diet.
Nutrition is a critical part of the equation when teaching young people about their long term health. They should not only learn about aerobic exercise that is fun for them, but they should understand nutrition and the importance of a healthy and balanced diet in their exercise plans. Without proper sustenance, exercising will be difficult to do. The combination of aerobic exercise and diet will help your teenagers to be fully prepared to choose to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

After your children are accustomed to a daily exercise routine, it will be second nature as they continue to mature. Your children will live a healthier and more full life, suffer from fewer health issues and look younger for a longer period of their adulthood. It's a great gift to give to your children and to yourself. In fact, why not choose to exercise with them? Then together you will discover the pleasures of exercising for fun!
