There has been a growing trend in the world for people purchasing recreational vehicles. Whether these are all terrain vehicles, or motor bikes or 4x4s, people are finding the need to escape from the stresses of modern life. More and more people are purchasing 4x4s, be it for their everyday travels, or for off road adventures. So why is this becoming a trend? Well besides the need of being able to take your vehicle wherever you want, including unfavourable terrain, 4x4s are becoming a more comfortable way of travelling around town!
4x4s are no longer the big, uncomfortable vehicles they used to be! They have now been revolutionised so that some of them can actually be very luxurious! More and more people are looking to purchase these vehicles for their safety features too. Because of their larger bodies and added safety features, they fare better in collisions than other cars. People with families and young children prefer to travel in SUVs, for the added safety and space factors. Some bakkies have a great cargo bed at the back, which is also a useful way of transporting pets. Most people do not like to have their pets in the cabin of their vehicle, but with a 4x4 they will no longer be faced with that problem.

These are the people who purchase the vehicles to use in difficult terrains, and for holidaying. 4x4s have a lot of power, and are capable of pulling heavy trailers containing boats, all terrain vehicles, off road bikes and other holidaying things. Travelling in a vehicle that can pull a heavy trailer is very helpful; it gives a lot of freedom to travel for longer periods of time, as more goods are able to be brought along on the journey. People with boats or jet skis prefer to use 4x4s, as they are more capable of pulling these heavy units. Besides it pulling abilities, a 4x4 is a fun vehicle to go on off road adventures in. Holidaymakers are no longer limited to driving on the beaten path; they are now able to drive on sand dunes, forest paths, mountain trails and rocky, muddy areas. Some people treat off roading as a sport, and go off to conquer new off road trails on weekends. They join 4x4 community clubs and forum sites, and it can be quite a social activity that brings a lot of satisfaction. Some off road enthusiasts feel that there is nothing more fulfilling than conquering a difficult trail or learning how to cross a deep body of water.
It is easy to see why a 4x4 would be an alluring vehicle to purchase. Advancements in technology have made them more affordable to drive with regards to fuel consumption and maintenance. There is now even motor insurance which has specifically been designed for these vehicles.
