Step 1:
Reference the Producer's Template
Most deadbolt-lock manufacturers provide a template that will help you set up the lock.
The template is designed to work with doors of various thicknesses and has reference points that could be marked on the door with an awl.
The deadbolt ought to be at least 6" above your doorknob.
Step 2:
Lower a Gap for the Deadbolt
After you mark the reference factors from the template, use a hole noticed to begin cutting the opening for the deadbolt When the pilot
bit on the opening noticed comes through the opposite side of the door, stop cutting. Finish the outlet from the other side of the door to prevent splinters.
In case your gap noticed is not deep enough to penetrate the exterior face of the door, use a typical bit to complete drilling the opening you'll use as a reference point.

Step three:
Drill a Gap By means of the Fringe of the Door
Use a 1 1/2" spade bit to drill a gap by the sting of the door for the bolt.

Step four:
Mortise the Area Around the Faceplate
Dry-match the bolt into the outlet, and trace around the faceplate.
Use a wooden chisel to mortise the area around the faceplate so that it will likely be flush with the door. When using the chisel,
preserve the beveled aspect in toward the mortised space, and tap the instrument deep sufficient to recess the faceplate.
You could need a smaller chisel to mortise the rounded corners.

Step 5:
Safe the Bolt To the Door Proceed mortising until the faceplate matches properly. Drill pilot holes, and safe the bolt to the door with screws.
Step 6:
Set up the Cylinder And Thumb Lever
Dry-fit the cylinder and thumb-turn plate so you'll know how the pieces fit together. Fit the outside facet onto the door first,
ensuring the writing is upright. Then set the inside piece in place, and align the screw holes with the mounting holes contained in the lock.
Fasten the deadbolt in place with screws.
Step 7:
Drill Holes and Safe the Strike Plate
Mark the top of the bolt with lipstick or paint. Shut the door, and switch the deadbolt several instances to mark the doorframe. Use a 7/eight" spade bit to
drill overlapping holes in the doorframe for the deadbolt.
Mortise the world around the gap so the strike plate will match flush with the doorframe. Drill pilot holes and secure the striker plate with screws.
