David Soard, co-founder/co-who owns the Boulder Kung Fu and Denver Kung Fu schools, called, the Chinese Shao-Lin Center(s) in Colorado, is yet again making plans for a Tour to China in 2011!
This will be the Chinese Shao-Lin Center’s 12th Tour for the Orient, visiting many historic and remote regions related to Kung Fu’s various and rare styles and origins.
Beginning nearly two-and-a-half decades ago, almost a quarter of a century from their 1st Trip in 1987, David Soard, and his wife Sharon will have taken over 700 Shao-Lin students to explore their Arts past.
Visiting such classical and historic sites as the “original” Shao-Lin Temple in Honan province, it’s sister Temple/location in Fujian province, the well-known Wu-Tang Temple, as well as, the O-Mei and Hua Mountain Temples. And also see the famous Shantung province, not only known for its rich martial arts heritage, but also the setting and home of the well-known “Outlaws of the Marsh”, from the classical novel, Shui Hu, or Water Margin series featuring Wu Sung, Lu Da, Song Jiang, Li Kwei, and others (also in print/published as “All Men are Brothers” and “Outlaws of the Marsh”).
David and Sharon Soard’s first Trip to China in the fall of 1987, followed a joint demonstration in Denver Colorado that summer, often called “Celebrate China”, honoring the sister-state relationship between Colorado and Hunan Province. At that time, 128 representatives of Hunan Province (including the Governor of Hunan) traveled to Denver to not only “cut” the red tape for economic exchange and trade, but also open the door for artistic and cultural exchange as well.
A lot of those visiting Denver from Hunan Province were performers from various artistic abilities. Musicians of classical Chinese instruments, Peking Opera performers, Chinese Gymnasts, Table Tennis (ping/pong) players, Dancers performing ancient Chinese Dance, and of course 5 well-known Kung Fu Masters, were all part of the entourage of those visiting Colorado in June 1987.
The students of the Denver Kung Fu and Boulder Kung Fu schools (Chinese Shao-Lin Centers in Colorado www.goshaolin.com ) were honored as the “only” group invited by the then Lieutenant Governor Nancy E. Dick, to perform daily for 10 days in Denver, alongside the 5 Masters from Hunan. An immediate and long-lasting friendship and bond were formed which has lasted until present day.
Whenever visiting China, the students of the Chinese Shao-Lin Centers (see complete list below) will always be hosted by these 5 traditional Masters and their schools/students in their remote villages/cities throughout China, to execute alongside their host colleagues.
David Soard believes that this upcoming 2011 Tour will be the most exciting and comprehensive, for all the Denver Kung Fu and Boulder Kung Fu students, as well as, for those from all the Chinese Shao-Lin Center locations.
Martial Arts demonstrations and sights such as the “Great Wall” and “Forbidden City”, to name a few, will highlight the Tour.
Many students have already begun signing up and preparing for this “Trip of a Lifetime” to the mysterious Orient!
