Selling on Ebay is big business. From getting rid of unwanted articles the system now supports numerous online retailers. How could you get started?

The basic idea of Ebay maybe needs little introduction. You advertise an item for sale and likely buyers place auction bids and the highest bidder wins the article. You get the best price, they get an item that they desire, with a bit of luck at what they judge to be a bargain. But the system has grown up masses and now supports quite an industry of sellers. And anyone might jump on board.

Find something to sell
The first stage is to find a product that you could sell, and that really is the toughest part. Clearing your house of surplus items and listing them on Ebay is fine as long as there are articles to sell, but it is improbable to give you a full time income. Some people trawl charity shops and car boot sales to find second hand goods to sell, but these are unlikely to make a huge amount of profit for lots of work.

You need a good source of products that you can advertise and sell and that typically comes from drop shipping catalogues. You need to find a provider that has items for sale and sign up to their service. It is worth doing your investigation before paying your membership, but this could be a little tricky without knowing prices.

Going for an article that is wanted
Ideally you want to find items for sale that are not flooding Ebay already. And this is not all that easy as there is a fine balance. If the items aren’t already for sale there is there a reason? Are they unpopular, too pricey or just not selling? If they are selling well then there could be heaps of people jumping on the band wagon to sell them.

A little bit of research at this stage will obtain the benefits in the long term. The items that you are putting up for sale should not be being constantly listed by different sellers and ending in unsold auctions. If you start advertising these items there will be even more competition for the few sales and your profit margins will be squeezed.

But, find a suitable product to load and you might give it a good description and hopefully it will sell first time and every time. With experience you will soon learn what of the merchant’s catalogue sells well and what doesn’t and be able to concentrate your activities around the articles that work.

Process your orders
Then all you need to do is to wait for the auction to end and the buyer to make the payment. You could send an invoice through the ebay system to remind them for payment if they are slow and once the money is received, you go to your drop shipper and give them the order details and tell your customer that the order has been processed and is on the way.

It is as simple as that. Concentrate on those items that work and it is merely a matter of having enough listings to make it worth while. Once you are established, you may even like your own ebay shop.
