Playstation 3 has been the console of choice for many of the best games developed within the past few years, standing toe to toe with other platforms for sheer quality. While everyone has their own subjective list of what makes a game "the best," here's a quick rundown of the top contenders for the best 10:
1. Final Fantasy XIII - Square shows once again that they are the uncontested masters of the role playing game market. The latest in the franchise follows the story of Cocoon and the fate of those who live below the mystical floating city. As is always the case with Square, an epic story, eye-boggling graphics, and a solid battle system make this game into a masterpiece and the envy of anyone who doesn't own a PS3.
2. God of War 3 - A gratuitous expansion on the ever popular God of War series, the third take combines the frantic button pushing along with the real-time events gamers have come to expect and cranks up the adrenaline. The flying episodes in particular are jaw-dropping. As usual, Kratos is at once menacing and hilarious. A must for any gamer.
3. Heavy Rain - In truth, this game isn't for everyone. However, the game pushes the idea of a video game as being a legitimate story telling platform so far forward that it doesn't even matter. The term ground-breaking is applied with appalling frequency, but in truth, this game opens doors that few games have ever accomplished. The story is first, the game is second. And there is no Game Over.
4.3D Dot Game Heroes - A self-referential action RPG that is loaded with humor and throwbacks to games of old. Think of it as a tongue-in-cheek homage to Zelda and the good old days of gaming. While the game's look might turn some people off, the game is well worth a play through, for nostalgia's sake if nothing else.
5.The Last Guardian - This is kind of cheating, since the game hasn't been released, but anything made by TeamICO, the company behind Shadow of the Colossus, is bound to be amazing.
6.Gran Turismo 5 - The elitists driving game of choice. Hyper realistic graphics and physics make this the racer to have for any fan of the genre.
7.BioShock 2 - As if the art direction and gameplay weren't enough, you get to control a Big Daddy. Really, who could want anything more? The openness of the original's battle system remains intact, and the story is gripping.
8.Just Cause 2 - Kind of like a spiced up version Grand Theft Auto, the free-roaming nature and compelling storyline make this game really stand out. Besides, the grappling hook/parachute combination are hours of entertainment in their own right.
9.Army of Two: The 40th Day - While it didn't receive an astounding reception critically, the game is just straight up, good old fashioned cooperative fun. Get a buddy and get down.
10.MLB 10: The Show - For the baseball enthusiast there is no other choice; with weekly updated stats and a host of new features and game modes, Sony's longest running baseball sim does not disappoint.
