Tired of the same old ski? Heli skiing blows away the ordinary ski adventure. Forget fake, manufactured snow that a million people have already used that very afternoon. When you heli ski, you get pure, untouched, wild snow, a perfect dream for skiing.

Helicopter skiing in Alaska, Canada, and other winter destinations delivers up mountain terrain as diverse as it comes. You've got high alpine glaciers, alpine bowls, steep chutes, gladed trees. Plus, there's the landscape. Imagine skiing by old growth forests that have been there for hundreds of years. Picture untouched winter wonderlands, nothing but you and the snow and a perfect scene of nature.

When you heliski, you experience remote mountain regions that seldom get exposure to humans at all. You get nature as it was meant to be, in a way that a ski lift at a resort just fails to deliver.

The time of year can greatly vary heli ski conditions. Some heliskiing enthusiasts prefer to go very early in the winter when conditions are quite cold because these are perfect snow conditions. You get that crystallized, powdery sugar snow. These are perfect for the relaxed skiing descents. It feels as if you are skiing down a dream.

Some helicopter skiing fans prefer to go in early spring because of the longer days. They enjoy the warmer temperatures and the creamy snow conditions from the corn snow. This ideal snow forms as the heat of the sun creates a melt water lubrication that forms around the snow crystals. You also get a lot more sunlight, which means more opportunity to ski greater heights. Ski in the springtime, and you can easily exceed more than 200,000 feet of vertical skiing. You get more skiing hours during the day for your money.

The length of your heliski descents varies depending on weather, snow stability, and snow quality. These are determinations made by the guides. For long descents, snow conditions can change dramatically in a single day, depending on the elevation.

If you've never experience helicopter skiing before, don't worry. You don't need to be some Grizzly Adams guide to enjoy heliskiing. That's why you hire a heli ski guide in the first place. Thanks to the advantage of a helicopter and a mountaineering guide, you can enjoy heli skiing with little to no mountaineering skills. Ideally, you should be able to ski well and handle any skiing conditions, but you don't need to know how to climb a mountain to get back down off one.
