TOOLS FOR THE DYSLEXIC:LEARNING TO NAVIGATE THROUGH A NON-DYSLEXIC WORLD WHEN YOU VIEW THE WORLD COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY
It affects the way we communicate with others, the way we look at questions, following instructions and the way we think about things. If you were never this lucky, this article is for you because I believe I am a dyslexic and never had the opportunity to meet a caring teacher who was dedicated to helping me learn. Even though I understood biological and chemical principles, the way I thought about math problems so differently that it made it hard for me to communicate my thoughts about a given topic with my chemistry or biology professors. Of course, my dyslexia reared its ugly head again making me flip verbs and pronouns when speaking or writing, and flip flopping important dates and times. Frustrated with the inadequacies of their teaching abilities, my parents spent considerable time explaining information to me in a way I could understand. You will find that this simple change will be the difference of graduating with honors or flunking out of school. I finished my graduate degree with a 3. As though adulthood is not difficult enough, dyslexia adds a dimension of complexity to the lives of those who suffer with it.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
If you find that you are thinking about things too fast, and thus stating something too quickly and fall into a flip flopping mistake, this is a tool that you should use. You will probably find this to be a simple yet very effective tool in combating the flip flopping aspect of the dyslexic mind. Since dyslexics flip pronouns around and will say an inversion of what they mean to say, the simple task of thinking through a sentence or phrase will help to eliminate this embarrassing mistake. Take a second or two to do this.
VERB AGREEMENTS
Part of being a dyslexic who has learned to live with this means you constantly think about what you are saying and writing and correcting yourself whenever you notice a problem. This can be quite embarrassing in front of an employer or someone you are trying to impress with your knowledge or excellent vocabulary skills. Do not be afraid to correct yourself if correcting yourself means you are conveying yourself in a correct fashion.
WRITING
In this fast paced business world of today, e-mails are usually answered quickly and efficiently, so you mustn't worry that your business pace will be slowed down in any way because of it. You may find that writing is easier for you to do as a dyslexic.
TAKING STANDARDIZED TESTS
Standardized tests can be very difficult for dyslexics to take. By analyzing you test in these two ways, you will understand what needs to happen in the future when taking this type of exam. While all of the answers are correct essentially, the answer that BEST answers this question is A:cats that are not spayed and neutered. It is primarily essential that you analyze prior exams and figure out the tools to correct these issues if you are going to beat adult dyslexia. First, underline any key phrase in the question sentence. It wasn't because I didn't understand the material I was being tested on. Ask the instructor or writer of the exam what the correct answer is. As discussed previously, analyze where you go wrong in an exam. So, how can you combat these aspects of a standardized test, (not reading into questions and checking make sure you have filled in each and every answer), by carefully checking your work. The feral cat population is heavy in certain parts of the country. Another way to combat multiple choice or standardized test exams is by looking at sample questions for the exam.
INSTRUCTIONS
The bottom line for combating dyslexia simply is getting into the hang of rereading, proofreading, double and triple checking everything you say or do. Remember, some of the best ways for dyslexics to communicate with others is through writing or e-mail. That way, you can double and triple check everything you wrote, (and what they wrote), so you can make sure you are answering their questions in a professional and appropriate manner. If you find these tools are helping but you need to find other ways to combat dyslexia in adulthood, contact a professional tutor or educator who specializes in special education. I find that my flip flopping nature has not changed, but with the tools I have put in place, I have been able to figure out quickly what I did wrong to fix it efficiently. Dyslexics often have to take more time to prepare for the type of exam they will be taking so you will find it is imperative to study the types of test questions in addition to the material you will be tested on. It took another person who could look at the instructions objectively to show me where I was going wrong.
