A problem at the dopamine neurotransmitter systems in the brain is held responsible for ADD. Genetics plays a massive part in many cases, as there is a chance of around 30% that a child to a parent who has ADD, will also have ADD. In instances of twin kids, if one of the pair has ADD, the other’s chances of being struck by the disorder increases by 50%. Earlier it was held that ADD is the result of malnutrition, however it was found to be an incorrect assumption. Similarly, allergic reactions, medications or bad parenting are also not the undelying cause. There are some other conditions that exhibit symptoms that look similar to ADD, but are not ADD. Some of these conditions are thyroid irregularities, fatal alcohol syndrome, lead intoxication, and deep head trauma. Thus, before one is able to know that a patient suffers from ADD rather than from another health condition, it is important to rule out each of the above alternatives.

Having ADD means that a person having it is not receiving enough neuro-chemicals. In simpler words it means that ADD signifies that proper stimulation of the brain is missing. As a result of that, the brain attempts to find methods by which the release of chemical substances can rise. People with ADD try to stimulate their brains with things like physical activities, movements, and all the time doing stimulating things. This is not a conscious decision on the parts of the individuals who have ADD. They actually cannot help themselves and it turns into a reflex, which implies that they usually behave in a hyperactive manner. Movements and physical activity, are means for individuals with ADD to try to stimulate their brains. This just isn't a conscious decision on the parts of the people with ADD. They really cannot help it and it becomes a reflex, which means that they usually act in a hyperactive manner. The thing that is missing for people with ADD is proper stimulation of the brain. Their brain, therefore, searches for strategies that will help it to release more neuro-chemicals.

The issue brought on by that is that individuals who are suffering from ADD, when face a circumstance that do not stimulate them, like faculty work, attempt to put their consideration on something that is stimulating to them. In fact the school work is completely hampered by this, and the child cannot perform well in his or her studies. Example: I'd like to tell you a story that I heard from a friend of mine. It was when there was much less known about ADD. There was a child who would all of the sudden get up on his desk when the class is still commencing, and would start to tell jokes. This child's conduct disturbed everyone, and actually people thought that this is what he is deliberately attempting to do. In fact, his actions have been past his control, however this was clear to everyone only after it became apparent that the kid has ADD.

Personal relationships and the ability to be enduringly employed additionally become a source of concern for individuals who have ADD. Legal matters also surface as ADD causes the ones who suffer from it to take risky actions and find themselves doing careless things to stimulate themselves. In some cases they even run into troubles with the law.
