Many of us internet fanatics were thrilled when we heard about the release of Firefox web browser many years ago. It boasted of security and speed, as well as themes and plug-ins. It did seem to live up to the hype, when it was first introduced onto the scene it was fast and innovative. It seemed to move at lightening speeds, and was so much more secure than Internet Explorer. However, it seems over time with so many add-ons and plug-ins, and with each new upgrade, things seem to be slowing it down.
Although you might think this is actually the web browser's fault, truth of the matter it really is not. The truth is that a lot of factors play key roles in the speed of the browser. Things such as your computer's hardware, broadband or internet speed, the server of the website you are visiting, and at times even the amount of tabs you have opened. All this taken into account you will still be able to find ways to make Firefox faster by making a few edits within the config file in your browser.
We are going to walk you through a few steps that should allow you to speed up Firefox when you are browsing. This is for broadband users and note that if you think you made a mistake you can always click the 'restore to defaults' button. This procedure will be enabling pipelining (items within the ' ' you need to just type what is in between, you do not need to include ' ').
* Open Firefox and in the url box type (without ' ') 'about:config'
* You will get a box that might say 'this will void your warranty' - click I'm Sure.
* In the find (or you can scroll to find) locate 'network.http.pipelining' - change to 'true' by double-clicking it.
* In the find (or you can scroll to find) locate 'network.http.proxy.pipelining' - set it to true by double-clicking it.
* Next find 'network.http.pipelining.maxrequests' and change the number to '8' by double clicking and changing the value.
* You should now right click someone in the area and click 'New' => Integer for the name 'nglayout.initialpaint.delay' and then set value to '0'.
* Close browser.
Reopen your browser to see if this did indeed make Firefox faster. There are other hacks and tricks you can do, however, this one is the most common, and it works without having to change any of your actual computer environment settings.
