There will come a time when electrical appliances will eventually give out. Being one itself, hair irons will inevitably wear out after a period of time. The time will come when buttons will be loosened and non-functioning; the ultimate end would be when the heaters will no longer work and the iron will lose its function.

But unlike most electrical appliances, repairing a hair iron is not really a practical thing to do, unless if the damage is very minor (like switches that dont hold) and does not require you to open it up.

Because what makes hair irons heat up and function is encased in a small area where the wiring may get complicated because of minute minute details, it will be impractical to spend for a hair iron to be repaired. The money spent will be better used for purchasing a new unit.

Of course it will be more economical to take good care of your hair irons and make them last longer. There are several simple steps to do this.

1. Don't leave your hair iron lying around your vanity along with other electrical grooming gear like hair dryers. This is to avoid the wires from tangling and any possible accidents that might occur because of it. When wires are in a jumble we tend to just tug at the cord wires to get them loose. This might wear out the protective rubbers of the wires, tearing them at junctions and this can be very dangerous.

2. Don't be too impatient in letting your hair iron cool down on its own after using it. Don't cool it before an air conditioner because it could damage the iron in the long run. What happens when you do this is that only the surface will feel cooled. In reality the inside of the iron will remain hot. Because of the cool casing and hot interior, there could be moisture in your iron, eventually rusting it. It will also be very dangerous to plug it in.

3. Keep hair irons in a dry, neat place where it will be free from any moisture. The box in which the hair iron is placed upon purchase is also perfect for storing. Just be sure to place the box somewhere dry. Also make sure that the wires are tucked in properly.

4. When tucking in the cord of the hair iron, make sure that it is not wound too tightly. give a space allowance for it so that the insulation and the connecting rubber of the cord and the iron itself will not easily wear out. You will want to avoid the rubber from breaking and exposing the copper wires within.
