Toilet flushing is one of the chief uses of water in houses. One flushing consumes almost about two to three gallons of water. As we all know water is one of the most necessary parts of life and hygiene. Manufacturers of flush tanks have come out with a novel way of reducing the consumption of water in a flush tank.

Ever heard of a Dual Flush Toilet system? Australians are said to be the first people to have invented this technology. They are widely used in Australia, Europe and Asia and are soon catching up in all other countries also. This system makes use of the method of consuming very little water to flush away waste.

This is the most effective method of reducing water consumption. This system operates on two buttons. One of which is to flush liquid waste (short flush), and the other to flush out solids (the full flush). The advantage of the dual flush system is that even in the full flush it consumes comparatively little water. Today all the world leasers are preaching the idea of green products and using these water efficient flushes will be your small contribution to save the planet.

The dual flush system makes use of the force of water to get rid of the waste, unlike in the standard systems where the force of water and air is used to flush out waste. That is why the dual flush toilet consumes less water. In the new system the trap hole at the bottom most corner of the bowl is bigger too.

There are two ways of converting an existing toilet to the dual flush toilet system. Either the whole toilet can be changed or there is a conversion kit wherein you can replace the interior parts of the main flush tank with the Dual Action Flush Lever and the Dual Flush Toilet valve.

This idea is comparatively cheaper and costs only about $29 to $30. In the long run a Dual Flush toilet saves a family a lot of money. For example a family of three to four members will save approximately thirteen gallons of water in one day!

Many reviews said that installation was not as easy as the manufacturers claim and some have even found it very difficult to maintain. The cost of the dual flush toilet can be anything from $250 to about $750. Dual flush Toilets manufacturers claim that these toilets last a life time provided they are not used too roughly.
