Your roof may be leaking but at a slow rate causing major deterioration in the attic without you even knowing. Not doing certain things to your roof and checking some locations can solve this mystery

when a roof first leaks it is so small the damage occurs around the source of the leak over a long period of time because the home owner is only aware of the problem when it is to late. The cause of a leak could really be anything but there are a few stories that predominate the majority of the small common leaks.

Some people climb onto their roof once or twice a year and spend half a day cleaning it in some way. Sweeping or power washing is done and as a result the damage is done, so if you are tempted to do this just don’t. The shingles get more fragile as time passes and high pressure water or brush strokes does nothing but damage. Even walking on a roof is enough to make small holes around the roof. Crows, racoons and squirrels find the moss that grows on your roof delicious. As the moss is eaten the roots that have inserted themselves into the shingles are ripped out.

Skylights, chimney and plumbing stakes without flashing allows water to run down into your home and between your walls especially if the source is the plumbing stack.

Find the sunnier days it is best to climb into your attic and try to spot any daylight shining through the shingle. Have a look in the attic on windy, wet day to see if water has made it into the attic. high moisture in the attic has a temperature affect in the whole house and can destroy your roof at a faster rate.

inadequate ventilation can cause extreme temperatures and high moisture content making the roof shingles of any kind to curl, these curls can crack and allow small volumes of water to enter the attic. If a roof is well ventilated then it is possible to get away with a small leak. A leak allowing very little water in. It is still recommended to seal any leak possible but a well ventilated roof helps as well
