When many people think about having bowel problems, they typically think of issues like constipation and diarrhea. These are certainly annoying issues to have, but imagine if you were constantly dealing with these problems. That would really be no way to live life! Unfortunately, there are people who actually do live their lives in this way because of Crohn’s disease.

Crohn’s disease is a problem that affects the bowels. It basically happens when a portion of the bowels becomes inflamed, which can snowball into all sorts of issues. If you or someone you love has this problem, you know how severe it can get.

This is a problem that can be somewhat hereditary. No one really knows yet where it comes from specifically, but heredity is one major risk factor. Another huge risk factor is the use of Accutane, a medication marketed to those who suffered from severe cystic acne. This particular drug was actually originally developed as a cancer-fighting agent. However, it does a marvelous job clearing up severe acne, and started being pushed into the hands of patients everywhere who were struggling with this frustrating problem.

The Underlying Issue

When the manufacturers of Accutane first put it on the market, it is alleged that they already knew that it could cause problems for those who had risk factors for bowel diseases. As with many side effects, they weren’t sure why this problem occurred. However, they cautioned doctors to refrain from offering the medication to patients who had personal or family histories of bowel diseases.

Unfortunately, what the Accutane manufacturers didn’t say is that these side effects could also affect those with no personal or family history of bowel diseases. Many patients had to develop Crohn’s disease and other issues before the medication was even pulled off the market! Still, though, many people are coming forward even years after having ceased taking Accutane. These people are taking the medication’s manufacturers to court for damages related to their negligence in releasing such a powerful drug with such terrible side effects to the public.

Do You Have Crohn’s Disease?

Are you wondering at this point whether Accutane could have caused you to develop Accutane Crohn’s disease? Well, you need to know what some of the side effects of this problem are so that you can start learning about your problems. Some of the main side effects of Crohn’s disease include constant diarrhea, fatigue, severe stomach pains and cramps, and unexplained or unintentional weight loss. If you’ve been experiencing a combination of these symptoms, it’s time to get to your doctor’s office to learn what you can do about them.

Unfortunately, Crohn’s disease isn’t something that can be solved at all. There is no actual cure to make it go away. There are many ways to manage the symptoms of the disease, though, and you can discuss your options with your doctor.

In the meantime, you may want to consult a lawyer about the possibility of an Accutane lawsuit for you. You may be able to get recompense for your pain and suffering as well as money to cover your Crohn’s related medical costs.
