Whether its perfectly made beds or clean rooms, I love staying in hotels. I don't travel as much as I'd like, but when I do I always look forward to staying in a hotel. I know it sounds a little odd, but it's the idea of being catered to and served that makes hotels so attractive. Coffee always tastes better if someone else made it.
This applies to staying in any hotel. Walking around my temporary home is a favorite hobby of mine. I like to know where the ice and vending machines are. I even like having someone at the front desk give you a map of the city and pointing out the different hot spots and historical sights. I think we tend to take the small details for granted far too often.
I can't help it -- I simply adore room service. Knowing that I could order a burger or club sandwich at all hours of the day or night is astounding. Having a cozy home away from home, makes any trip that much nicer. I put a premium on comfort, even above and beyond accommodations and decorations. If you're uncomfatble, you're not going to care about how the room was laid out and designed.
Should your trip not be living up to its promise, you still have your awesome hotel room to return to. Opting to make that unexpected stop along the way can lead you to all sorts of cozy hotels. On our last sojourn, for instance, my wife and I were driving back from visiting her parents in Oakland, California.
After a dreadfully late start and getting caught in traffic, we managed to get out of the city before lunch. Once we hit our stride, we decided to get off the highway and enjoy some scenic routes along the South Bay. We ended up spending most of the day driving in and out of beautiful small towns. By the time we found ourselves booking a night at a hotel in Pleasanton, CA, we were ready for a delightful pampering.
