It is very important first to know the different types of skin, especially your own skin type, before deciding to use a certain product, or before undergoing a specific treatment. Such knowledge will make you aware of what is complementary to you, and what products you will have adverse effects.
It is a precaution in using the wrong products that would do more harm than good. For instance, you may damage your skin by applying an oil based cream to your already oily skin. Your skin, particularly the face may have an acne or pimple breakout.
So here are the different skin types. There is an oily, normal, t zone type, dry skin, sensitive and combination skin. These are defined in more detail below together with the right regimen for each.
Oily Skin
People with oily skin need to have the appropriate and maximum type of care for they are prone to pimples, acne and breakouts. The teenagers suffer from these more because of the hormonal imbalance in their system. On the other hand, others can also have oily skin due to excessive production of sebum in their bodies.
The skin mostly looks and feels oily, greasy as well as shiny. There is an unnecessary presence of shine on the skin’s surface. People with this skin type must wash their face with soap and water or cleansing agents as often as possible so as not to allow dirt and dust particles from sticking. This skin type gets visible as well as large skin pores and if they are open, may cause pimple breakouts.
Normal Skin
Persons with this skin type are considered lucky for they do not need to be extra careful. It only needs a regular caring routine and cleansing. You can check if you have normal skin by wiping your face with a tissue in the morning. If the tissue has no signs of oiliness, then you have normal skin.
Dry Skin
This skin type has a thin texture. It looks incredibly dry, sometimes red and patchy too. Persons with this skin type experience dryness in their face even in the morning. It needs a lot of care.
It needs to be moisturized to counteract the over dryness. Creams and facial washes are required for people suffering from this skin type. This skin type has an advantage from the rest of other skin types for it is not prone to any pimple and acne breakouts. However, dry skin can also be more prone to wrinkles.
Sensitive Skin
As the word “sensitive” suggests, this skin type reacts easily to sun, dirt and dust as well as most cream, lotions and soaps. If it gets irritated, the skin may have red patches and can be really itchy.
Skin Treatment Tips for Various Skin Types
For oily skin, there are specially formulated facial washes. You may also want to use rose water along with an astringent and put in a cotton dab as often as possible. This will keep your face clean and grease free. Do not use soap very often.
For normal skin, you must do a routine moisturizing and toning as well as cleaning. You can also apply a face pack once a week to keep your skin fresh and smooth.
For dry skin, it must be hydrated with lots of water. The body produces little amount of sebum so it needs more moisture. It is best to apply night cream also before going to bed.
For sensitive skin, it is best to take extreme caution in choosing the products that you apply. Use mild products only. Do not use perfumed lotions and soaps with strong smells.
