When moving to Texas, most people who have never lived there before do not know what they are getting into because the state has quite the reputation. As far as housing, one of the most important things to know is that, contrary to popular belief, you will need something that is known as Texas insulation, you will need this so the cool air from your home stays in your home, because it can be extremely hot in the "Lone-Star State." Also, there is such thing as Texas sandblasting which will keep your home looking newer for longer in dry and humid temperatures. Also, concerning housing, you will want to make sure there is pool or at least room to have a pool put in because almost just about every Texan has a pool in their backyard for relief from the warm temperatures. Below is a more detailed list of things you should look forward to if you are moving to Texas:
1. The major cities in Texas are not very close to each other. For example, Austin is one of the closest major cities to Houston and the two cities are close to three hours away from each other. So, it is important to remember this when organizing the your move.
2. The major cities in Texas tend to be very large in area, so there is usually a lot of traffic; however, this is not as bad as it used to be because as the major Texas cities are growing, so are the roads. There is a lot of construction in the major cities since a lot of of the big cities in Texas are growing pretty rapidly.
3. The people are almost always very friendly and they have a lot of pride in their state. In general, people in the major cities of Texas have the traditional southern attitude of great friendliness. Texans are also very proud of their state, so be cautious to not say anything that could be insulting about the state when meeting new people.
4. As of now, many things in Texas are not too expensive, considering Texas has so many big cities that are growing rapidly. This will be really good news for people who will be moving with families or for those who will be starting a family.
5. Finally, the weather in Texas is very mild year-round, so you can do outdoor activities through every season. So, there is a plethora of activities you can do outside to help get or keep you in shape throughout all of the seasons.
Texas is a great state in which to live, but it is important to know the items listed above so you can make your move to Texas less stressful and so you can be more prepared. As always, you should do more research on your own if you are moving with children and need to look at good school districts. You might also want to research the local laws and the exact types of weather in your part of Texas because, for example, Houston is very humid throughout the summer, whereas San Antonio has more dry summer heat. After reading this list and doing some of your own research, you will hopefully have a relatively smooth move to Texas!
