Legend has it that Aphrodite rose from its very shores. Hence, this is also known as Aphrodite's Island. This lies in the Mediterranean Sea, just below Turkey.

Cyprus provides a whole list of attractions. Of course, there are beaches with plenty of watersports to be indulged in - snorkeling, water-skiing and kite-surfing. Ayia Napa and Protaras are decidedly the best beaches to go to. There are also water parks for you to swim, surf and splash about.
For more of nature's bounty, climb up, up, up gorgeous Troodos mountains - with Mount Olympus at its very peak. There are a bevy of hilltop villages where you can just soak up and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. During summers, you can go bird watching, hiking and cycling. Winter times are for woosh, woosh, whooshing down the trail at the ski slopes.
Cyprus also boasts of archeological sites that hark back to the Stone Age as well as the Roman Empire. The capital, Nicosia, boasts of a showcase of beautiful Venetian walls. There is also Hamam Omerye, which is a 14th Century bath house that stands testimony to the diversity of Cyprus' culture. It used to be an Augustinian church and a mosque before it was reconverted into a Bath House.
Other sites of interest include the museums (including Guzelyurt Museum), palaces and castles (like Kyrenia Caste and the Vouni Palace.
If you want to go partying at night, there are plenty of places to celebrate and dance. Combine the beauty of the beach, with the heady atmosphere at night as you dance at Nicosia's promenades, which come nighttime are lined with sparkling neon lights.
