Deciding on the correct web hosting service or company can be a very tricky part of the process as there are just so many things to consider and there are so many factors governing a good web hosting service provider that it is hard to make a correct decision. I am of the opinion that if there were a chance to make an incorrect decision, than the best thing to do would be to make an informed decision on the subject.
By now, most of you would already know what the game is about and why one needs web hosting and the factors surrounding it but in order to clarify to people who are not yet aware, I will provide a brief outline. When you want to go on the Internet you have to host your website with a web hosting company so when someone enters your URL or website address in their browser, your website will pop up. There are generally two sorts of websites, one is called a static and the other is called a dynamic website. Static websites have their pages “sitting” and cannot be changed, many companies, individuals and organizations use static websites but when you need a database on the back end of the website for example like in a shopping website, auction website or any website which can update itself according to the back end database is called a dynamic website.
There are two types of web hosting, one is called a shared web hosting while the other is referred to as a dedicated web hosting. In a shared web hosting plan, your website shares space on the server with other websites (even though you have your own allotted space), the benefit of this sharing is that you are able to get cost effective hosting but do not have the luxury of having a secure connection or your own IP but if you are not going to share sensitive information and have more or less a static website, then this is the best for you.
On the other hand, if you are going to require a secure connection for payment processing you will need dedicated hosting which will enable you to have your own independent IP (internet protocol) which will allow you to have your own digital certificate which is mandatory for a website dealing with personal or financial information.
Now how to select, the reliability of the hosting companies server is very important because if there is a break down in their server or that particular companies server would be chocked or overloaded, your website will open and operate very slowly or in the worst case scenario, will not work at all and go dead until the server gets a breath of fresh air. So look for companies which have a reliable and dedicated infrastructure to support web hosting properly as it is a very complex operation. Your hosting provider can make or break your business.
